A Libyan court has sentenced five Bulgarian nurses and a Palestinian doctor to death for deliberately infecting hundreds of children with Aids, provoking a chorus of Western condemnation.
The ruling in a deeply politicised case could set back Libya's hopes of better ties with the West, which meant a deal that saves the six was still likely, analysts said.
The children's relatives broke down in tears and hailed the ruling that ended a seven-month retrial as a welcome act of defiance of the West.
"Justice has been done. We are happy," said Subhy Abdullah, whose daughter Mona, 7, died from Aids contracted at the hospital in the town of Benghazi where the medics worked. "They should be executed quickly," he said.

I understand that these people are upset, I mean it's not easy to lose a child.
But has it occurred to them that maybe -just maybe- there's a tiny possibility that the investigation has gone wrong, and the medics are not guilty?
According to the French doctor who first detected the HIV virus, these children were infected long before the medics arrived to Libya.
Another possibility is that perhaps the hospital had poor hygiene which in turn led to the infection of all these children?
I have yet to see the evidence proving the medics guilty as charged.
It just doesn't make sense that they would deliberately (or negligently) infect 500 something children with HIV.
Gaddafi has a mind of his own. He says that he himself cannot interfere with the law.
Interesting how I as thinking about the whole issue these days and only to find it here!To hang or not to hang is the question. When capital punishment exist in the country, it is difficult to campaign against an execution. It has to be removed first.
ReplyDeleteQaddafi is using the same argument of western democracy against them: no one is above the law, even the president and the independence of the judiciary. You can argue both ways, but that is Libya. I have few comments on another execution on my blog.

In Islam it's known that adultery, sodomy and apostasy from Islam are capital offenses & death penalty must be carried out in these cases.
ReplyDeleteCountries like Saudi Arabia are using Islam as an excuse for being extreme, for example sentencing death for drug trafficking.
I think everybody deserves a second chance, and capital panishment is nothing but harsh and ruthless.

So it's clear that in Islam capital punishment is for the retaliation of those who commit capital offenses.
I do not believe that capital punishment reduces crime rate, and I believe that people deserve second chances, but Qisas (retaliation) is a must.. and it's Allah's ruling that us Muslims shouldn't argue about.
How do you figure drug trafficking is not a capital offense but sodomy (homosexuality) is? Drug trafficking causes problems thoughout the land but what one does in the privacy of their home hurts no one.

If Islam went according to the above, that would mean premarital sex shouldn't be forbidden since it hurts no one. I could smoke weed at the privacy of my home & it wouldn't harm the environment. Girls could walk around the sreet naked since, who exactly are they harming? If Muslims don't fast during Ramadan then it shouldn't be a biggie, no one is hurt are they?

I can see that you're referring to God as a female, which proves that you and I have different beliefs. Which is fine, since I believe that everyone is entitled to their own beliefs.
Anyway, you're getting off point here. If someone performed a capital offense (one according to Islamic Sharia'a, and not your or my opinion) then he/she must undergo retaliation.
This has nothing to do with Allah wanting them dead, it's to do with why they performed capital sins in the first place.. since Allah (SWT) is the creator of all and nothing is impossible for him.
